Care & Cleaning of American Blanket Chests

The finished wood (the Cherry) should be cleaned and dusted with a clean damp soft cloth and dried with a clean soft cloth.  Be gentle.  If you would like to occasionally polish the finished wood, only use a silicone free polish.

The Cedar base can be wiped occasionally with a slightly damp, clean, soft cloth to pick up the dust particles.  Do not saturate the wood.

Keep your blanket chest away from direct heat sources such as furnaces, fireplaces, heaters, stoves, and heating air vents.

Cherry darkens naturally with age and sunlight may speed up the darkening process.  Cedar gracefully grays over time.  The fine grain of the Cedar is insect resistant and the aroma repels insects.  This makes the blanket chest a good place to store blankets and sweaters.  Remember that wool is especially attractive to moths and may need an extra level of protection such as a garment bag.
